Instagram DM templates that get replies
Most Instagram DMs fail for the same reason: they are long, they are about the sender, and they land out of nowhere. The ones that get replies are short, warm and tied to something the person actually posted. These four templates show you the shape. The detail you add is what earns the reply.

Four templates, and when to use them
The Story reply
When: They posted a Story or post you can genuinely react to.
Hey [name], saw your post about [specific thing they shared] and it was genuinely useful.
I work with [people like them] on [the outcome you deliver], and I thought it might be worth a chat.
Open to a quick call this week?
Why it works: A Story reply is a warm lead, not a cold message. It starts from something they chose to share, so it does not feel like a sales blast.
The specific post
When: You have actually looked at their grid and can name one real thing.
Hey [name], I came across [their business] and saw [a real post, product or result]. That is a strong [angle].
I help [people like them] win [the outcome you deliver]. Want me to send a one-page summary?
Why it works: One verifiable detail about their actual content proves you looked, and that is what separates a DM from spam.
One clear question
When: You do not need a meeting yet, just a signal.
Hey [name], quick one: how are you finding [the thing you help with] at the moment?
I ask because I work with [people like them] on exactly that. No pitch, just useful to know.
Why it works: A single low-effort question gets more replies than a pitch, and the answer tells you whether they are a fit before you spend a call on them.
The short follow-up
When: They did not reply to your first message.
Hey [name], I know Instagram DMs get buried, so I will keep this short.
Still happy to send that summary if it is useful. If now is not the time, no problem at all.
Why it works: One light follow-up a few days later, no pressure. Then stop if there is still no reply. Pestering burns the connection and can get you restricted.
The rules behind every template
- Keep it under five sentences. Instagram DMs read on a phone, so shorter is always better.
- Reply to something real. A Story, a post, a reel: start from what they chose to share, not from your product.
- Ask for one small thing. A reply, a short call, a yes or no. Never a list of asks.
- No link in the first message. Instagram flags link-heavy first messages as spam, and a link before trust gets you ignored.
- One follow-up only. If they do not reply twice, stop. Over-messaging can get your account restricted.
How DMer fits in
The hardest part of a good Instagram DM is not the words: it is finding the right account and learning one real thing about them before you write. DMer researches the people, writes a personal message for each, and plans the ones you approve around your goal. You approve, edit or reject every message before it goes out.
Frequently asked questions
Do these templates really work?
No template guarantees a reply, and you should be wary of any page that promises one. What makes an Instagram DM work is that it is short, warm and tied to something the person actually posted. These templates give you that shape; the specific detail you add is what earns the reply.
What if I do not know anything specific about the person?
Then you have not done the research, and the DM will show it. The single highest-value thing you can do before messaging anyone is look at their profile and recent posts and find one real thing to mention. DMer does this research for you as part of the service.
Do I write the messages myself?
You can, using these templates as a starting point. Or DMer writes a personal message for each prospect, built around your goal and your offer, and you approve, edit or reject every one before it is sent.
Do you send the Instagram messages for me?
Instagram does not allow automated messaging on your account, so at the planned time your approved message waits in your dashboard with a one-tap open and copy. You send it and mark it sent. Emails can go out automatically from your connected inbox.
